Serie A strugglers Parma have hired Franco Colomba as their first-team coach until the end of the season.

He replaces Pasquale Marino at the helm, after he was relieved of his duties on Sunday following a 2-1 home defeat to rock-bottom Bari.

Parma currently sit two points above the relegation zone with seven games of the season remaining and feel a change in the dugout was necessary to help aid their survival bid.

A statement from the club read: "Franco Colomba is the new Parma coach.

"The coach has reached an agreement to guide the team until the end of the 2011/12 campaign."

Parma are Colomba's 13th club since 1993, with his managerial career having taken him far and wide.

He is most noted for roles at Napoli and Cagliari, as well as numerous jobs in the lower leagues.

The 56-year-old spent the majority of last season with Bologna, but was sacked just two days before the start of the 2010/11 campaign.
