Bayer Leverkusen defender Lukas Sinkiewicz will be out of action for around six months with a knee injury.

The 22-year-old was forced to limp out of Bayer's Bundesliga win at Rostock on Saturday.

An MRI scan has now shown cruciate ligament damage to his knee which could keep him sidelined until the end of the year.

The news is a bitter blow to the former Germany international who had only recently won a regular first-team place at the BayArena following his summer move from local rivals Cologne.
