Kompany: City switch
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of defender Vincent Kompany from Hamburg for an undisclosed fee.
Bundesliga club Hamburg announced on Thursday that the centre-back's two-year stay at HSH Nordbank Arena had come to an end.
Kompany has penned a four-year deal at Eastlands and becomes manager Mark Hughes' third signing since taking over from Sven Goran Eriksson.
City are hopeful the Belgium international will gain clearance to play ahead of Sunday's home encounter with West Ham united.
The 22-year-old arrived at Hamburg from Anderlecht in 2006, and has since been regularly linked with a move to England.
Kompany recently represented his country at the Beijing Olympics before returning to play his final game for Hamburg in their opening league fixture of the season against Bayern Munich.
