Bayern Munich bosses have begun transfer talks with Zenit St Petersburg star Anatoli Tymoschuk.

The Ukraine international midfielder has long been a top target for Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann after impressing in recent seasons.

He met with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and executive manager Uli Hoeness in the Bavarian capital on Sunday, although a January deal is not in the pipeline.

"We have had a comprehensive chat, but we are not talking about signing the player this winter," Rummenigge told Bild.

"We are discussing next summer.

"There are, however, still several things to sort out. The player has asked us for time to think things over."

Tymoschuk, who can reportedly leave Zenit for a 14million euros (£11.8m) fee next spring, is seen by Klinsmann as the ideal replacement for Mark van Bommel, whose current contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of the season.
