Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hit back at Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's criticism of his policy of signing young players from overseas.

Wenger is renowned for his ability to identify promising talent and nurture their potential at the North London club.

But on Wednesday, Rummenigge launched a scathing attack, stating that the policy is similar to "child trafficking" and "kidnapping".

Rummenigge drew on midfielder Cesc Fabregas' arrival from Barcelona after the Spaniard joined the Gunners at the age of 16.

However, Wenger has cited the example of Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz who transferred to Bayern from South America when he was still 17.

Wenger said: "It is an old speech. Look at Santa Cruz at Blackburn. Ask him what age he came to Bayern Munich. Then you have an answer for Karl-Heinz Rummenigge."
