Neuer: Would command a large fee
Schalke defender Marcelo Bordon feels the club may have to sell prize asset Manuel Neuer to ease the club's financial problems.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper attracted strong interest from fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the summer while Manchester United have also been recently linked with the German international.
Schalke have stood firm in their determination to keep hold of the shot-stopper but Bordon feels the time may have come to let Neuer leave.
The former Stuttgart man accepts that the decision will not go down well with supporters but it could be better for the club in the long run.
"I know it would be terrible for the supporters of the club, but you have to keep the situation of the club in mind," he told Bild.
"Maybe therefore it would be better to let Manu leave, just because you would receive a whole lot of money for such a transfer."
Schalke currently lie fourth in the league table, four points off Bayer Leverkusen at the summit, and Bordon feels the club would be in a much better financial position had Felix Magath, who joined from Wolfsburg in the summer, been appointed as manager earlier.
"If the club has signed Felix Magath earlier, the club would have already progressed a lot. Regarding the crisis talk I think there is a lot of nonsense," he added.
"People try and tell us we are in a big crisis, but we have been playing a lot in Europe in recent years. We were in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, we made it to the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup.
"How do you end up in a crisis?"
