Heynckes: Setting the pace
Bayer Leverkusen retained the Bundesliga lead and broke the club record for the best start to a season despite being held to a 0-0 draw at Hannover on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund recorded the only win of the afternoon by hammering Nurnberg, as Hamburg climbed to fourth after a stalemate with Hoffenheim.
Struggling Stuttgart drew 1-1 with Bochum, and it finished 2-2 between Wolfsburg and Freiburg.
By remaining undefeated in 15 matches, Leverkusen have improved on a 14-game undefeated start from 2001/02. Jupp Heynckes' team now have 31 points and will end the weekend in first place no matter what happens in Sunday's games.
Leverkusen were lucky to escape with a 0-0 draw against Hannover, who had the better chances in a dull game, while Hamburg and Hoffenheim both lost ground with their scoreless draw.
Dortmund celebrated their biggest win of the season with a 4-0 success over Nurnberg as Kevin Grosskreutz scored his first Bundesliga goal in the eighth minute and Lucas Barrios, Mohamed Zidan and Mats Hummels also scored in the one-sided match.
Wolfsburg have now failed to win at home against all three promoted teams after drawing 2-2 with Freiburg.
But the defending champions dominated the match and missed several clear chances before clinching the draw in the 82nd with a goal from Fabian Johnson.
Mohamadou Idrissou had put the visiting team ahead in the 19th minute after Wolfsburg's Makoto Hasebe and Sascha Riether collided with each other.
Wolfsburg pulled even after an own goal by Felix Bastians, who tried to clear a cross but instead headed into his own net in the 27th minute.
Freiburg regained the lead in the 51st, when Daniel Caligiuri won a penalty and Ivica Banovic converted.
Markus Babbel's Stuttgart, were held to a 1-1 draw with Bochum as Serdar Tasci scored in the 63rd, but Christian Fuchs equalised two minutes from the end with a free-kick after Bochum's Diego Klimowicz had been sent off in the 81st minute.
Frankfurt defeated Mainz 2-0 as Maik Franz opened the scoring in the 29th minute and Alexander Meier added a second on the stroke of full-time.
