Wolfsburg have confirmed caretaker manager Lorenz-Gunter Kostner will remain in charge until the end of the season.

Managing director Dieter Hoeness has confirmed Kostner will continue to oversee first team affairs for last season's Bundesliga champions before an appointment is made on who will replace Armin Veh, who was sacked a fortnight ago.

Hoeness told Deutsches Sport-Fernsehen: "It is being planned that we see out the season with Kostner at the helm. This is our goal.

"We would only be changing this situation in case we would be getting real troubles from now.

"It might take place that we announce a new manager in mid-March, in mid-April, but this manager would not start before the new season then."

"It is rubbish everyone is guessing we require the new manager to be a big name. We need a true coach that is fitting here."

Wolfsburg have been linked with the likes of Bernd Schuster, Guus Hiddink and Notts County director of football Sven Goran Eriksson as well as Huub Stevens of Red Bull Salzburg.
