Bayer Leverkusen missed the chance to move level with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after losing their unbeaten record to lowly Nurnberg.

Although Bayern could only draw on Saturday Bayer Leverkusen failed to make them pay with a surprise 3-2 defeat to relegation-threatened Nurnberg.

It looked easy at one stage for Nurnberg with the home side moving three-goals in front with under an hour played.

Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting's brace and third from Mickael Tavares looked to have secured the game before the visitors hit back.

Stefan Kiessling (66) and Patrick Helmes (73) reduced the arrears to set up a nervy finish, but Nurnberg held on.

Elsewhere, Mainz have climbed into ninth spot while Hoffenheim have slipped into 11th thanks to a 1-0 success.

Aristide Bance's goal 21 minutes from time proved decisive, helping Mainz to leapfrog their opponents, who are now winless in four.
