Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez has insisted he wants to leave Borussia Dortmund and join a new club.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Bundesliga outfit under coach Jurgen Klopp and is unlikely to be a first choice at Signal Iduna Park.

Sunderland have been consistently linked with a move for the forward, who reached the quarter-finals with his nation and impressed at the World Cup in South Africa.

With the Black Cats having recently sold Kenwyne Jones to Stoke, manager Steve Bruce may still be on the lookout for a striker and Valdez clearly fits the bill.

"I have made up my mind to leave Dortmund and I hope to find a new club within the next fortnight," he told the Bild newspaper.

"I am not officially part of the squad according to the coach Klopp and have not even been named in the squad for the cup game in Burghausen.

"Instead, I am going to follow an individual training regime with a fitness coach.

"Of course that hurts me, but what can I do? It just makes me want to sign for a new club as soon as possible."

Newly promoted Primera Liga side Hercules have already held discussions about a move, but Valdez has made it clear he is keeping his options open before making a decision whether to join the Spanish outfit.

"I am scared of arriving at a club who are then suddenly relegated. That would damage my personal career," he added.

"New negotiations (with other clubs) should therefore commence."
