Striker Markus Rosenberg has signed a contract extension with Werder Bremen as part of a loan move to La Liga outfit Racing Santander.

The Sweden international, who scored in Bremen's dramatic aggregate victory over Sampdoria in the UEFA Champions League play-offs, will now spend the rest of the season with Racing.

Former Ajax player Rosenberg's temporary switch to Spain is part of a new deal with Bremen that ties him to Weserstadion until the June of 2012.

Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs told the club's official website: "This is a good solution for everyone involved.

"Markus is raring to grab first-team football and we were unable to guarantee that, although he scored a valuable goal in the Champions League qualifying lately and he has been in good form in training.

Solution

"We are certain to see him get a first-team place in Spain, where he will show all of his qualities."

Rosenberg said: "This solution hands me a great opportunity with a good future ahead of me. I am sure I am going to be a stronger player when I return from this loan spell."

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland Under 21 star Liam Boyce has completed his move to Bremen on a two-year deal from Cliftonville for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old striker, who will begin his Bundesliga career in Bremen's U23 squad, said: "This is a dream for me. I always wanted to play at a big club in Europe."

Bremen have also confirmed a loan arrangement that will see defender Timo Perthel join Austrian top-flight outfit Sturm Graz for the remainder of the season.
