Swedish club Elfsborg have confirmed they rejected an offer from Schalke for striker Denni Avdic.

The Bundesliga side were thought to have offered around three million euros for the Swedish international, but saw it turned down.

The 21-year-old had been in-demand over the summer, with Blackburn also thought to be interested, but Schalke were the only club to make a formal approach as they looked to add to an already good degree of attacking talent following the arrivals of Raul and Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

"It was really difficult," Elfsborg chairman Bosse Johansson told Footbolldirekt.com.

"I and sports direct Stefan Andreasson travelled to Germany on Friday to negotiate, but on Sunday, we decided to reject the offer.

"But Schalke showed that they are serious, therefore it was a hard decision to make.

"Especially considering Denni and we understand that he is disappointed. But I am convinced he will get more chances."
