Germany international Manuel Neuer signed a five-year deal with Bayern Munich on Wednesday after passing his medical.

A deal was agreed last week for the 25-year-old goalkeeper to join from Schalke and Bayern have now confirmed the move has been finalised.

"We're very happy to have acquired one of the world's best goalkeepers and we're happy about the long-term partnership," sporting director Christian Nerlinger told Bayern's official website.

Neuer starred for Germany as they reached last summer's World Cup semi-finals and he has now made 20 international appearances.

Last season he helped Schalke win the German Cup and reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in the club's history.

Neuer is glad to draw a line under the long-running transfer saga after tearfully announcing his desire to leave Schalke back on April 20.

"I'm glad that everything is now behind me," he said.

"I am looking forward to the tasks ahead, the first training sessions and the training camp.

"I won't just be a visitor in Munich, I think I will feel comfortable here.

"I feel good in Germany, I am the national goalkeeper and Bayern Munich is the best club in Germany, so I always wanted to come to Bayern."

However, the move has angered some Bayern fans, who have carried "No, Neuer" banners at recent matches as the keeper had been an iconic figure at arch-rivals Schalke, making over 150 appearances for the club since his first-team debut in 2006.
