Cologne striker Lukas Podolski has been urged to improve his performances by the club's sporting director Volker Finke.
The German international has endured an inconsistent start to the new Bundesliga campaign, but has scored three goals in five appearances.
He has grabbed 13 goals in 37 appearances for the club in the previous two seasons following his move from Bayern Munich in 2009.
Cologne's start to the season has been frenetic; they are 12th after scoring 11 and conceding 15 goals in just six games.
However, Finke is unhappy with Podolski's contribution and says he is failing to reach his potential.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Finke said: "He is 26 years old and has close on 100 caps and that shows the quality of this player.
"He can be a super footballer, but it is not the experienced and subtle player who is the one who always turns in reliable performances.
"(He is guided by) his emotions, the context of a match or psychological matters.
"We saw that (form) while he was at Bayern."
