Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has confirmed he will replace Oliver Khan as the Bundesliga outfit's captain.

Khan's illustrious playing career is nearing an end, with the Germany international set to hang up his gloves at the end of the 2007/08 season.

Sagnol has a contract with Bayern until 2010 and is thought to be keen to end his career at the Allianz Arena.

The 29-year-old will be rewarded for his loyalty by succeeding Kahn as the club's captain.

"I will definitely be Bayern's captain when Oliver Kahn quits," Sagnol told L'Equipe.

"Being captain in a great foreign club is a source of pride because in these traditional clubs, the armband does not go to the player who has the best relationships with the media but to the boss, the one who is really in charge.

"With or without the armband, I am always the same - I talk a lot, even when I upset my team-mates, but I need to do that."
