Cologne president Wolfgang Overath says the club will never stop trying to bring Lukas Podolski back to the RheinEnergie Stadion.

The 23-year-old Bayern Munich star, who made his name with the Goats, is known to be unhappy at his situation with the Bundesliga champions.

He has made no secret that a return to Cologne would be top of his priority list if he left the Allianz Arena in the future.

Podolski started another game on the bench last weekend as coach Jurgen Klinsmann brought back Luca Toni into his starting line-up and Overath now feels that his chance of capturing the fans' favourite is increasing:

"We will always fight for him and try to bring him back here during every transfer window," Overath told SportBild.

"But someone has to open the door for us. I am convinced that he will return to FC Cologne at some point.

"His heart is here at this club and in this city and he would get even better if he has his familiar surroundings again."
