Bernd Leno is hoping an agreement can be reached that will allow him to stay on at Bayer Leverkusen past the end of his initial loan deal.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper completed a move to BayArena in August after finding himself down the pecking order at Stuttgart.

He is set to remain with Leverkusen until December, at which point he will be expected to return to his parent club.

Leno, though, is keen for an extension to be put in place, with it his desire to stay on with Leverkusen and continue taking in regular first-team football.

"I have read that Fredi Bobic (Stuttgart's general manager) says I will definitely be back at the club on 1st January," he told BILD.

"But Bayer Leverkusen are competing in the UEFA Champions League and Stuttgart are not. I can imagine staying on at Bayer Leverkusen."

Leno's agent has refused to speculate on what the future will hold, but admits his client would benefit from an extended stay at Leverkusen.

Uli Ferber said: "It is way too early to discuss this. So much can happen between now and the winter transfer window.

"It is a fact that Bernd wants to play Bundesliga football, at a high level if possible. He needs to know where his future lies and things need to be right for all clubs."

Bobic will not be shedding any light on the situation any time soon, as he insists his sole focus at present is on players currently on Stuttgart's books.

He said: "I do not want to discuss this week in, week out. I am putting my focus on the goalkeepers that are actually part of our team."

Leno is getting his chance because Rene Adler has been injured on their boss Robin Dutt does not expected him back until January.

"We are without Rene Adler for some time already, it is a blow for us. He has been a regular for years at this club," said Dutt.

"However he is injured at the moment and I am not going to expect him back in action earlier than January. He will miss the entire first-half of the season with his knee injury."
