Drobny: Set for new deal
Hertha Berlin are ready to reward goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny's recent good form with the offer of a new contract in the summer.
Many have credited the 29-year-old as the main reason why the club have marched towards the top of the Bundesliga this season.
This point was highlighted in last week's 2-1 success over Bayern Munich where the former Fulham stopper was in inspired form to keep their title rivals at bay.
The Czech Republic man is also drawing praise from his team-mates with on-loan Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin declaring that 70 per cent of the side's recent success is down to the No.1.
With so much positive attention surrounding Drobny it is perhaps no surprise that the club want to tie their man down to a new contract.
"Jaroslav has 18 months to run on his deal," Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness told Bild.
"However we will sit down in the summer and discuss new terms. He is such a tremendous backing for us and really nerveless too."
Former Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn was one person to be impressed with Drobny's performances.
"I was sceptical on him in the beginning," he admitted.
"He took his time to settle at Berlin, but he made good progress and he looks very stable. I do not see any greater weakness in his game."
Meanwhile long-serving Hertha midfielder Pal Dardai has revealed that he rejected a move to join Bayern in 1999.
The Hungarian went on to add that if the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season his decision will have been justified.
"I was on top (of my career) in 1999 when Bayern wanted to sign me," he stated.
"I was very close to putting pen-to-paper and I was thinking a lot about it but I decided to reject their offer, I listened to my heart.
"If in 2009 I get into the Champions League with Hertha then I'll say I didn't regret my 10-year-old decision."
