Hertha Berlin have turned their attentions to Locomotiv Moscow defender Marko Basa after being priced out of a move for Nemanja Pejcinovic, according to reports in Germany.

Hertha manager Lucien Favre insisted that Pejcinovic had performed admirably during his trial at the club but the Serbian proved to be too costly.

Favre is now rumoured to have stepped up his interest in Basa but any deal could collapse before negotiations have even begun.

Locomotiv are thought to want £4.3million for the 26-year-old but the German side want to take the Montenegro international on loan first.

Basa has only been in Russia for one season after making a name for himself at French Ligue 1 side Le Mans, where he played for three years.
