Hertha Berlin have confirmed that they are set to offer a trial to former Fulham full-back Moritz Volz.

The 26-year-old is currently unattached after being released by the Cottagers at the end of last season.

Volz spent the majority of the 2008/09 campaign on loan at Championship outfit Ipswich, but failed to land a permanent deal with the Tractor Boys.

There has been plenty of interest in his services since becoming a free agent, but concrete offers have been in short supply.

A short spell with Schalke at the turn of the year, in which the joined the club on their winter training camp, ended in disappointment as the financially-crippled Bundesliga outfit struggled to put a suitable package together.

That has forced Volz to look elsewhere, with his next port of call set to take him to the German capital.

"We are keeping tabs on the situation of Moritz Volz and are preparing to offer him the chance to come in on trial," Herthan Berlin's general manager Michael Preetz told Berliner Morgenpost.

"We are going to discuss this matter and make a decision on whether he will be offered the opportunity to train with us or not."
