Hertha Berlin say they will talk to manager Markus Babbel about his future at the club.

The 38-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at the Bundesliga side after winning promotion to the first tier last season.

Hertha have made a strong start to the new campaign, losing just once in five games.

The club's general manager, Michael Preetz, has been questioned on his manager's future but is staying tight-lipped on the speculation.

He said: "We are not going to discuss this matter in public.

"I am to confirm we are looking to have a long-term working relationship with a manager and that we will be sitting down and discussing contracts as we have always been doing."

Meanwhile, Babbel, who played for Liverpool and Blackburn during his playing career, is keen to sort out his contract.

He said: "Hertha Berlin will have no need to fear I could be talking to another club in the meantime.

"I am under contract at Hertha BSC Berlin and we will definitely be sitting down to discuss the future when the time is right."
