Hamburg seal Kompany switch

Bundesliga outfit Hamburg have wrapped up the deal to sign Anderlecht's Vincent Kompany.

The Belgium international replaces international colleague Daniel van Buyten, who has joined Bayern Munich.

Hamburg are believed to have paid around £5.1 million for his services, eclipsing their previous record transfer for Rafael van der Vaart.

Kompany revealed coach Thomas Doll played a key role in his capture and also that he is desperate to bring league success to HSV.

"I am very glad that I am here," he told the club's official website. "I am sure that I've made the correct decision at the correct time.

"Thomas Doll impressed me. I hope we have success and get the title, which we've not won for more than 20 years."

Sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer stated the HSV were long-time admirers and that his record speaks for itself.

"We have been watching Vincent's progress for a long time and we are delighted that he has signed for HSV," he said.

"He has impressively proved at club and international level that he has all the qualities we are looking for."
