Hannover have signed German international striker Benjamin Lauth from Bundesliga rivals Hamburg.

The 25-year-old, who has won five caps for his country, put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at the AWD Arena on Tuesday.

It is believed that Hannover have paid around ‚é¼500,000 (£340,000) for the player who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga champions Stuttgart.

Lauth has seen his career nosedive following a run of injuries and poor form at Hamburg, but Hannover boss Dieter Hecking is confident that he has made a good buy as he attempts to form a squad capable of challenging for Europe next season.

"Our attack is much more varied and dangerous with him," Hecking told the Reds' official website.

Lauth has made a total of 119 Bundesliga appearances for 1860 Munich, Hamburg and Stuttgart, scoring 33 goals in the process.
