Huub Stevens has stated his interest in a return to Hamburg following the dismissal of Michael Oenning on Monday.

The former PSV Eindhoven coach rescued the German side from relegation in 2007 after replacing Thomas Doll, getting them up to seventh, then fourth the following season before leaving for the Dutch giants.

Hamburg are bottom of the Bundesliga this season, collecting a mere one point from six games.

Stevens told Voetbal International: "I am constantly called by German journalists and they tell me that I am the preferred candidate. But I have not yet been approached. HSV is a club that has stolen my heart."

The Dutchman is highly regarded in Hamburg and is currently out of work after he was sacked by Salzburg in April.

"I have been at home now for six months since leaving Salzburg. I have had offers from abroad but I am not just talking to any club. But if HSV call, I will definitely talk."

Marco van Basten, Michael Laudrup, Horst Hrubesch and Morten Olsen have also been linked with the top job at the Imtech Arena.
