Feyenoord sailed through the second round of the KNVB Cup, while NEC battled for a win and both VVV Venlo and NAC Breda crashed out to Eredivisie opposition.

In-form Feyenoord had no trouble disposing of AGOVV Apeldoorn as they romped to a 4-0 victory at De Kuip.

Coach Ronald Koeman gave six less experienced players the chance to prove themselves against the Jupiler League side, resting first-team regulars Erwin Mulder, Jordy Clasie, Ruben Schaken and Manchester City loanee John Guidetti.

The Rotterdammers were barely tested against their lower league opponents, storming to success thanks to goals from Sekou Cisse, Karim El Ahmadi, Otman Bakkal and 17-year-old substitute Anas Achahbar.

NEC Nijmegen progressed after a testing trip to Fortuna Sittard, where they were forced to come back from two goals down to eventually win 4-2 after extra-time.

Danny Hoesen, on loan from Fulham, opened the scoring for the Jupiler League hosts before setting up Harrie Gommans for their second.

Lasse Schone pulled one back for NEC before young striker Stef Nijland grabbed a late equaliser to send the game into extra-time.

The visitors ploughed ahead in the extra minutes as Kristian Vadocz and Melvin Platje scored to fire NEC into the next round.

VVV Venlo's cup ambitions were dashed when they lost 2-0 at home to Eredivisie rivals Heerenveen.

Luciano Narsingh and Bas Dost were on target for the visitors, both scoring within the opening 20 minutes to seal the win.

NAC Breda were another top-flight side to exit the competition, going down 5-4 to Vitesse on penalties.

The Gelredome clash remained locked at 0-0 after 120 minutes but Vitesse emerged triumphant when goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen saved NAC's fifth spot-kick, taken by Tim Gillessen.

Juliper League side Willem II, relegated from the top-flight last year, crashed out of the tournament to minnows Harkemase Boys.

Hosts Harkemase were 2-0 down just before the final whistle but came back to force the game into extra-time before eventually winning 4-2, with Oebele Schokker grabbing a double in the added minutes.

Elsewhere, Roda JC and Excelsior also progressed against lower league opposition.
