Giggs: Can go on for a couple more years
Sir Alex Ferguson believes the experience of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes is 'very important' to Manchester United's UEFA Champions League ambitions.
Giggs is due to make his 100th appearance in the competition in Wednesday's game at Lyon, while Scholes is closing in on his century.
United boss Ferguson is confident the long-serving duo still have at least two more years at the top level and has praised the way they have kept in shape.
"The experience of Ryan and Paul Scholes is going to be very important," said Ferguson.
"Ryan has two years left on his contract and Paul has a similar amount remaining.
"They will be good years because they have looked after themselves.
"We've got younger players to play alongside them, so the balance is right in that respect. It's difficult to say how long they'll last.
"But the one thing they have to do is steer clear of injuries. Ryan is in fantastic shape as he's never had a really serious injury.
"In terms of their lifestyles and how they look after themselves, you'd think Ryan and Paul could play on for another couple of years."
Ferguson also believes he now has more options at his disposal after United lost to eventual winners Milan in last season's semi-finals.
He added: "We've got a stronger squad this time.
"Last year we didn't have the resources to get through the second leg. If we'd had better resources, we'd have got through."
