Ferguson: Proud history

I'd rather be at a club with a great history. It may weigh heavy upon us but I'd rather have that than be at a club with no history at all.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed to win the Champions League for the Busby Babes.

It is 50 years since the Munich air disaster claimed 23 lives and eight Busby Babes in the darkest day of United's history.

Five survivors from that team will be watching in Moscow as United look to win their third European Cup and Ferguson says the current United crop will not let them down.

"We are proud representing the history in this club and we will not let them down," said Ferguson.

"I'd rather be at a club with a great history.

"It may weigh heavy upon us but I'd rather have that than be at a club with no history at all.

Experience

Ferguson has also backed his players to rise to the occasion and not freeze on the biggest stage of all.

"I've told them 'Once you get to the final, the opportunity is there'. And in my experience with young players, the fearlessness is the key as much as the ability.

"I don't expect my players to freeze. We go there with good momentum, good confidence, everyone fit and I'm not aware of any fear in my mind. Really I'm not."

"They may not have the experience of Chelsea but they've the nerve and courage. That will make the difference."
