Owen Hargreaves is confident that Manchester United will prevail in the European Super Cup.

Hargreaves is in line to make his first appearance of the season in Monaco as United take on Uefa Cup winners Zenit St Petersburg.

The midfielder has been struggling with a knee problem of late but is looking forward to the clash with the Russians.

Hargreaves was a member of the Bayern Munich side that lost to Liverpool in the 2001 Super Cup and is hoping to make amends on Friday.

"It didn't feel like a big game to me at the time," Hargreaves admitted to Sky Sports News.

"The stadium was half empty and I remember there was a strange atmosphere.

"But I think you take those experiences and it will be a different occasion this time.

"We all want to win it and we will go there to do that. I expect that we will win."
