Drogba: Anxious wait

Luiz Felipe Scolari is waiting for news on the extent of Didier Drogba's injury after the Chelsea striker was stretchered off in the 0-0 draw at CFR Cluj.

Drogba was making his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League since he was sent off in last season's final against Manchester United, but was hurt during the second half in Romania.

The Ivorian sustained his injury when stretching to reach a cross and was taken to hospital where an X-ray ruled out a broken leg.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Scolari was unable to shed any light on Drogba's injury, with knee ligament damage suspected, while central defenders John Terry and Alex also picked up knocks.

"I lost Terry, I lost Alex and I had a problem with Didier," Scolari told Sky Sports. "I don't know anything until I have spoken to the doctor."

Ashley Cole missed the game with a back complaint, while Scolari is also currently without Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Joe Cole and Michael Essien through injury.

Injuries normal

He added: "Injuries in football, it's normal. I need to think for the game on Sunday (against Aston Villa ) and how many players do I have, and try to replace some players and play against our opponents in the Premier League and try to win."

Scolari admits his Chelsea side were below par in drawing with Cluj, despite maintaining their position at the top of Group A.

"I think we did not play well, I know this, and the players know this, but we need to understand that one point is better than zero points."

The Chelsea chief also refused to blame the pitch for his team's display as last season's beaten finalists struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

"It's not the pitch," continued Scolari. "It's normal in football to have some problems. In the game or in training we don't say that the pitch is bad.

"It's a game and there are some problems in the game, sometimes it happens. It's not because the pitch is very good or not very good."
