Manchester United defender Wes Brown has welcomed the extra competition for the right-back berth in Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Brown held the right-back role last season as Gary Neville missed the majority of campaign through injury.

Neville is now back to full fitness and the emergence of Brazilian youngster Rafael Da Silva has increased the competition for places at Old Trafford.

Rafael started the weekend win over West Brom at Old Trafford before being replaced by Neville

The 18-year-old is expected to miss out on Tuesday's UEFA Champions League Battle of Britain clash with Celtic, although Brown is by no means certain to play despite establishing himself as England's first-choice right-back.

Brown is happy with the competition and believes it can be benefit United.

"It is healthy competition," said Brown.

"Rafael is a quality young player and I am sure he is going to be the future for Manchester United.

"Gary Neville and I have been here for donkey's years, so we know it is good for the club.

"We are all fighting for the same place and as long as the gaffer has got that selection dilemma it is good for the team.

"Whoever Sir Alex Ferguson picks will play well and give 100 per cent."
