Juventus' UEFA Champions League game with Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday night will go ahead despite an explosion in the city.

A grenade exploded near a metro station close to the Russian team's training ground.

Three people died, including a child, when the device went off inside a taxi.

The driver of the vehicle was also seriously injured. It is not known whether the bomb was intended to be set off in the metro system which was packed with commuters, but the Minister for National Emergencies immediately increased security.

Reports had suggested the government could ask European football's governing body Uefa to postpone the match.

However it has now been confirmed that Uefa have received no requests to postpone the fixture and that as it stands, the game will go ahead.

"At the moment there's no likelihood at all that the game will be postponed," a Uefa spokesman confirmed.

"Everything points to it going ahead as normal.

"Obviously we're monitoring the situation and we're in close contact with people over there.

"But we have had no requests to postpone the game."

Uefa director of communications William Gaillard admitted that the Russian government would have the final say on whether the game will go ahead as scheduled.

"We have not received anything at the moment," he said. "But obviously the decision rests with the government.

"They are sovereign over what happens on their land. Their say is final on events in their country."
