Dani Alves has sent an ominous warning to Barcelona's rivals by suggesting they can only get better.

The Catalan giants have made an almost faultless start to the 2009/10 campaign, both at home and abroad.

They set the early pace in the Primera Liga, alongside Real Madrid, while they also remain unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League.

Barca continued the defence of the European crown they claimed last season on Tuesday as they overcame Dynamo Kiev 2-0 at Camp Nou.

Pep Guardiola's side were full value for the three points on the night, but were far from their free-flowing best.

Brazilian full-back Alves admits as much, but claims Barca are more than capable of raising their game over the coming weeks.

"In the Champions League we are still giving away too many chances to our opponents. We have to try and ensure this doesn't happen," he said.

"They (Dynamo) made it difficult for us. We were slow in moving the ball around at the start.

Control

"But we improved and we created chances. We had total control of the game.

"We are happy despite knowing that we can still get better."

Barca skipper Carles Puyol was also forced to concede after the game against Dynamo that the Spaniards had been uncharacteristically subdued.

"It was a difficult match and maybe we weren't able to play our normal game," he said.

"We knew that they were very strong defensively, and who would look to hit us on the counter-attack. We picked up three very important points."

Puyol's central-defensive partner Gerard Pique added on Barca's official website: "Until Messi's goal we struggled to get on top.

"We weren't totally fluid in our play. It's not been our best day, especially with regards to moving the ball around."
