Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores is looking for his side to extend their European campaign after their 1-1 draw with Apoel in Nicosia.

The Spaniards wasted the opportunity to cement a Europa League place but remain favourites to finish third in Group D of the Champions League thanks to Simao's second-half equaliser.

Flores admitted his side's confidence was affected by Nenad Mirosavljevic's fifth-minute opener for the Cypriot minnows but was satisfied with the outcome.

He said: "The team was affected psychologically when they fell behind, but in the end it was a good result. Our aim is to continue in Europe."

Apoel's fate is out of their own hands heading into the final round of group games when they face a tough trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Coach Ivan Jovanovic said: "The players' efforts were great, but there were problems with circulation and ball possession.

"Perhaps if we had better ball circulation we may have had a better result."
