Sir Alex Ferguson is confident David Beckham will get a good reception from Manchester United fans when he returns with AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

United were drawn against the Italian giants in the last 16 of Europe's premier club competition and with Beckham completing his loan move to the Rossoneri from LA Galaxy at the start of the month he now faces the prospect of facing his former side on March 10th.

The former England skipper, who spent 10 years at the Theatre of Dreams, has admitted that the occasion will almost certainly be an emotional one and Ferguson feels the 35-year-old will get a good reception from the United faithful.

The Red Devils boss endured a frosty relationship with Beckham during his final season at Old Trafford but the pair seem to have patched up their differences.

"David is sure of a tremendous response from United fans," he told the Mail on Sunday.

"They all recognise his contribution at the club and what he has done since, especially with England.

"I have followed his career, as I do with any player who leaves United. It is no surprise to me that he is still playing at the highest level even when, at one time, that looked unlikely during his final months at Real Madrid.

"Going to play in America might not have been the best thing but it hasn't held him back. He's done really well."
