Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant Manchester United supporters will not allow their ongoing protests to affect performances.

The Old Trafford faithful continue to rally against the Glazer family, with the debts incurred by the American owners making them increasingly unpopular.

A battle for power has erupted at the Theatre of Dreams, with the supporter-led Red Knights attempting to wrest control of the club away from the current regime.

Further action against the Glazers is reported to be in the pipeline for Wednesday's crunch UEFA Champions League clash with AC Milan, in which the Red Devils will be looking to reach the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition.

It has been suggested that fans will delay entry into the stadium for 10 minutes as a sign of protest, but Ferguson doubts such an event will take place and has called for a united front both in and around the ground.

"The fans won't do that," said Ferguson of the rumoured protests. "It is too important a game.

"Old Trafford will be rocking and I am sure whether they are wearing the traditional red and white or the protest green and gold scarves the supporters will be united and speaking with one voice to get us safely through."

Development

Ferguson is keen to keep his focus on matters on the field, with United looking to reach a third consecutive Champions League final.

Having Wayne Rooney back in contention against Milan will certainly aid their cause, with the England man in red-hot form over recent weeks.

He has matured into one of world football's finest talents, but Ferguson insists Rooney's continued development has nothing to do with the summer sale of former talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

"Ronaldo's departure has nothing to do with Wayne's form," argued the United boss.

"The credit must go to Wayne's development as a footballer and his rise in the game.

"I just wish we still had Cristiano here as well."
