Bohemians enjoyed an encouraging start to their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over The New Saints.

The Irish side earned a home win in Dublin in the first leg of the second qualifying round as Killian Brennan scored the only goal.

Brennan netted a 12-yard header from striker Paddy Madden's cross in the 66th minute of the Dalymount Park clash.

Plenty of chances came for both sides in a rain-soaked match, but it was Bohemians who took the upper hand in the second half, piling pressure on their Welsh opponents.

Mark Quigley went close to doubling the lead when his long-range effort bounced back off the bar in the 82nd minute, while Madden was denied twice in the final stages.

Meanwhile, Sparta Prague were also celebrating after their 3-0 triumph over Liepajas Metalurgs, while Hapoel Tel Aviv saw off FK Zeljeznicar with a comprehensive 5-0 win.
