Northern Ireland champions Linfield made a credible start to their Champions League campaign as they held Rosenborg to a goalless draw.

The Blues put up a resilient fight against the Norwegian champions in the opening leg of their second-round qualifier at Windsor Park.

The closest the visitors got was a goal-line clearance from Linfield's 39-year-old captain Noel Bailie.

But the Norwegians failed to find the back of the net and the tie was left delicately poised ahead of the return leg at Lerkendal next week.

In other action, Serbian club Partizan Belgrade saw off Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia 3-1, while Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova scored the same result over Albanians Dinamo Tirana.

Lithuanian side Ekranas Panevezys beat Finland's HJK Helsinki 1-0, while Aktobe Lento of Kazakhstan disposed of Georgians Olimpi Rustavi 2-0.

In the other result of the night, Belarus club BATE Borisov secured a comprehensive 5-1 thrashing of Icelandic side FH.
