Chelsea club secretary David Barnard insists the Stamford Bridge side are not looking for revenge when they take on Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

The draw on Friday produced a rematch of the famous 2008 final that saw Sir Alex Ferguson's men narrowly edge out the Blues on penalties to lift the grandest prize in European football.

The contest is made all the more intriguing due to the fact the two teams are still in contention for Premier League honours, with the bitter rivals set to now face off three times before the end of the season.

Speaking from Nyon following the quarter and semi-final draws, Barnard made it clear that on a European night, league form goes out of the window.

"We have a great rivalry domestically but the Champions League is something different," he told Sky Sports.

"We've played Liverpool in the Champions League on numerous occasions and Arsenal and on each occasion it's been a totally different game.

"I think we are looking forward to it. I'm sure people are going to bring up Moscow and the word revenge but I don't think it's so much revenge."

Second chance

With the image of penalty misses from John Terry and Nicolas Anelka permanently emblazoned in the minds of Chelsea fans, a quarter-final date with Red Devils could provide a chance to put things right.

Barnard admitted that while the club has moved on from the rain-soaked Luzhniki Stadium, the vast majority of the players still remember.

He added: "I think it's probably one of the single factors as far as motivation is concerned.

"Most of that team is still with us. They've experienced it, and whether you want to put a wrong right is probably a cliché but I think it will be a great motivation."
