An appeals body has ruled Benfica midfielder Augustin Binya must serve his six-match European ban for his horror tackle on Celtic's Scott Brown.

Binya was dismissed for the challenge on midfielder Brown during his side's UEFA Champions League Group D encounter with Celtic on 6th November.

Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Body subsequently handed him a six match suspension on 16th November, describing the tackle as 'a challenge that seriously endangered the physical health of the opposing player'.

The Cameroon international, 23, then appealed but Uefa's Appeals Body upheld the original ban at a meeting on Thursday.

He has already missed Benfica's Champions League matches against Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk pending the appeal.

The rest of his suspension will apply to all Uefa competitions, meaning he will miss Benfica's meeting with Nurnberg in the last 32 of the Uefa Cup next month.
