Rapid Vienna have confirmed the signing of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old had been without a club since his contract with Hull City expired last season but the Austrian club have turned to the veteran frontman after agreeing a two-year deal.

Vennegoor of Hesselink, who scored three goals in 19 games for Holland, previously played for Twente, PSV Eindhoven and Celtic before joining Hull last year in their unsuccessful relegation-battling campaign in the Premier League.

He said: "I had several interesting offers from all over Europe but at Rapid my family and I instantly got a great feeling.

"I look forward to a new and hopefully successful chapter in my career."

The Dutch striker arrives in Vienna as Nikica Jelavic's replacement after the Croatia striker moved from Rapid to Rangers last week.

And Vennegoor of Hesselink is set for another run in Europe following Rapid Vienna's play-off victory over Aston Villa last week to reach the group stage of the Europa League.
