Ireland: Named in squad

Stephen Ireland has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for this month's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Germany and Cyprus, while Joey O'Brien has also won a recall.

Manchester City midfielder Ireland has been included, despite his controversial withdrawal from the squad after last month's draw against Slovakia.

Ireland falsely claimed his grandmother had died in order to make an early return to Manchester before it was revealed he returned to see his girlfriend who had suffered a miscarriage.

Irish boss Steve Staunton and The FAI have forgiven Ireland for his misdemeanour and he will be available for the games against Germany and Cyprus at Croke Park.

Bolton defender O'Brien has been recalled for the first time since making his debut against Sweden in March 2006.

Sunderland defender Paul McShane and Reading winger Stephen Hunt are both suspended for the clash with Germany on 13th October, but they are available for the home game with Cyprus four days later.
