Carr: Ruled out

Injury has forced Republic of Ireland full-back Stephen Carr to pull out of their forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Carr will miss their Group D clashes with Germany on Saturday and Cyprus four days later after suffering a hamstring injury.

The news comes after the Newcastle defender missed Sunday's win over Everton, and is the latest blow after injury problems have kept him out for the majority of the Republic's disappointing qualifying campaign.

Bolton defender Andy O'Brien has been called up into the Republic's 25-man squad as cover.

O'Shea

But Irish boss Steve Staunton faces further injury worries after the versatile John O'Shea suffered a dead leg during Manchester United's 4-0 win over Wigan on Saturday.

O'Shea will now be monitored by the Republic's medical team before a decision is made on whether he can play on Saturday.
