Wigan defender Paul Scharner has explained he is still unsure whether he will be included in Austria's squad for Euro 2008.

"I've not given up hope. I am ready for the summer."
Scharner on Euro 2008 Quotes of the week

The 28-year-old controversially quit the international fold in 2006 after criticising coach Josef Hickersberger.

The pair held clear the air talks recently following Wigan's goalless home draw with Arsenal, with Scharner feeling the discussions were positive.

Scharner failed to hear a definite answer from Austria's coach, who now claims it is 'unlikely' the defender will make his squad.

However, the Latics stopper has not given up hope of making the finals and will do all he can between now and the summer to impress Hickersberger.

Unclear

"From what I understand, he's still not sure what he should do with me," explained Scharner.

"I know it was a surprise to him when I called him but he was happy and we had a good meeting.

"The only problem is that the result was not what I expected. I expected a yes or no but right now it is still up in the air.

"I've not given up hope. I am ready for the summer, and if not then I will go on holiday."
