Podolski: Made a good impression
Germany coach Joachim Low has hinted that Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski could be handed a midfield role at Euro 2008.
Podolski, who faces tough competition for a place in attack, played the second half of Germany's 2-1 win over Serbia on the left side of midfield and obviously impressed Low with his performance.
"It is an alternative worth thinking about," Low told the German press on Tuesday.
"Lukas looked good in that position, he managed to put them under pressure.
"He has made a good impression all round."
Low is still to settle on his starting line-up for Sunday's opening match against Poland, but Oliver Neuville seems certain to be on the bench.
Neuville scored the only goal as a substitute in a 2006 World Cup group clash with Poland and hopes to have a similar impact at the European Championship.
"I'm sure I'll be called on again," said Neuville. "People said before the World Cup that I was the fourth or fifth choice striker, but I was always the first one called off the bench.
"The Poland game last time was the most emotional game of my career."
