Torres: Hoping for improvements
Fernando Torres admits he must adapt to Spain's style of play in order to reproduce his club form at international level ahead of Euro 2008.
The Liverpool striker has rarely reproduced his standards in his first year with the Reds for Spain, but the 24-year-old hopes that will change.
Spain take on USA on Wednesday evening in their final warm-up game before Euro 2008, giving Torres one extra chance to fine tune his understanding with his team-mates.
"It is obvious that the football is different from the Premier League where there are more long passes, Torres said in AS.
"But, those of us who come back from abroad need to adapt to the national team.
"In my case I am the one that needs to accustom myself to the way the team plays and not the other way round. If this team is united and works as a unit, we can achieve great things."
After being tipped to be one of the stars of the tournament in Austria and Switzerland, Torres hopes that Spain perform as a team rather having one stand out player.
"I hope that it is Spain's European Championship, not just one player's," Torres continued.
"Everyone has to contribute because if we do that we will be able achieve our aim."
And Torres feels it should be easy to play in a team which contains the likes of David Villa.
"It is all the same to me because the national has a definite system and it works well with one striker or two," Torres added.
"It is much easier to adapt to play alongside great players, like Villa, and the quality that comes from midfield.
"This team likes to dominate the ball and is very offensive and, therefore, it is obvious that the defence will suffer more. But Spain has a good defence and we have shown that."
