Scolari: Upbeat
Luiz Felipe Scolari insists his final game in charge of Portugal was not "a sad farewell".
During the group stages of Euro 2008, Scolari was announced as Chelsea's successor to Avram Grant and then saw his side crash out of the quarter-finals following a 3-2 defeat by Germany.
The defeat brought an end to Scolari's five-year reign during which he has lead the Portuguese to the final of Euro 2004 and the World Cup semi-finals two years later.
Portugal were a hotly tipped favourite to walk away as 2008 European champions, but Scolari remained upbeat despite his side failing to meet those expectations.
"It's not a sad farewell. The players gave their best and we'll focus on the positives," he told Portugual's Record.
"I'd like to thank everyone for what they have done in these past five-and-a-half-years, and I wish all the best for Portugal.
"This team has the quality to go even further than we have."
Portugal's Football Federation president Gilberto Madail also echoed Scolari's optimistic outlook and has said the team did their country proud.
On finding a replacement, he added: "The directors will meet next week and the various alternatives, which we believe should be considered, will be presented.
"There could be some surprises on the list. We aim to make a decision by the middle of July."
Brazilian Zico has already admitted he would relish the role as Portugal's next manager as Scolari takes over Chelsea officially on July 1.
