Aragones: Led Spain to glory
Luis Aragones has confirmed he left his role as Spain coach as he did not feel the Spanish Football Federation wanted him to continue.
The veteran tactician stole the managerial plaudits at Euro 2008 as he guided Spain to their first silverware since 1964.
Aragones' four years at the helm were not without controversy but after Spain's success in Austria and Switzerland, there were calls for him to continue.
However, it is anticipated Aragones will confirm a long-mooted rumour that he has signed a deal to take charge of Turkish side Fernerbahce in the next few days.
"I don't accept those that say I wanted to leave," he told Marca.
"I admit I said everyone has a sell-by date as there was no movement (from them).
"The Federation did not want me as coach. If they had wanted me they wouldn't have spoken to another while I was still working."
Reports emanating from the Spanish press have claimed former Real Madrid coach Vicente del Bosque has already reached a verbal agreement to replace Aragones.
