To choose your own Team of the Season, click here
Your choices will be revealed as part of a special Sky Sports end-of-season review entitled Premier League - Team of the Season to be broadcast at 6pm on 14th May on Sky Sports 1.
The skysports.com series continues with the selections of chief sub-editor Alex Dunn who also reveals he went out on a limb with a couple of his pre-season predictions.
Moore: The Miracle Man
It's not been a vintage year between the posts but having retired his joystick; David James has again been in inspired form and gets the nod as my goalkeeper. The defensive spine is provided by the largely impenetrable Rio Ferdinand-Nemanja Vidic axis, with an attacking thrust provided by Gael Clichy and Glen Johnson (in the absence of a real star performer) on either flank. Cesc Fabregas has faded at the business end of the season but his wondrous display for two-thirds of the campaign deserve a place, while Ronaldo sneaks in courtesy of nigh on 40 goals. Alexander Hleb has arguably been his side's most consistent performer - as has Aston Villa's Gareth Barry - with the duo making up my quartet. Fernando Torres has been a revelation and makes the cut, as does Emmanuel Abebayor despite his malaise since visiting the barbers.
Having spent the previous nine months cooing over this player like a new mother to snotty child, it would make a mockery of my weekly Tuesday Club rants not to smother Mr Ronaldo in the most illustrious of accolades. Our ritual midweek drinks this season have seen myself and a colleague spar like gladiatorial warriors over whether Ronaldo is genius or flat-track bully, before Long Island ice-teas take over and we forget who won the debate and start all over the following week.
Ronaldo polarises opinion like few others that have gone before him. To the non-believers he a poseur par excellence, a grubby diver, an over-achieving under-performer. The expressive eyes, the nonchalant shrugs, the theatrics, tumbles and turns make for a quintessential boo-boy and yet, he laps it all up and sniggers at those that chase his demise. And for that, and for the goals, and for laughing at Cesc Fabregas' mardy remonstrations for his having the audacity to entertain, Ronaldo wins my gong.
When Swansea were charged with the task of filling Kenny's Jackett in February of last year they plumped not for a hardened campaigner of promotion campaigns but rather a rookie with less experience than a teenager graduating from an all-boys school.
Housewives' favourite Martinez arrived in Wales in the knowledge he would soon be losing talisman and cult hero Lee Trundle to the Championship. In the summer he regrouped his troops, proved his eye for spotting talent in the shape of Jason Scotland, and delivered the League One title playing a stylish brand of football that had panache and vigour.
The Valleys haven't had a hero like Martinez since Tom Jones emerged doing that creepy uncle dancing and long may the Spaniard continue on his quest for the top.
Given his £19million price it is perhaps difficult to call Anderson a 'rising star' but the manner in which he has settled so seamlessly to the pace of the Premier League sees the Brazilian steal my vote. I accept it's a little like arching an eyebrow at Wimbledon and smugly suggesting 'I fancy a young lad called Federer I've been keeping my eye on' before tapping your nose in a hush-hush manner.
Anderson arrived in Manchester as a bit of an unknown quantity but after a slowish start he is now established as a fans' favourite; his strong running style, bite in the tackle and the ease in which his name fits into an 'Agadoo' inspired chant has made him an Old Trafford darling.
And to cap it all, in an age when the common man struggles to align their own experiences with those of a millionaire footballer, isn't it refreshing that Anderson chooses to live in a caravan in Frank Gallagher's back yard.
He has hair like straw and was my tip for flop of the season but sometimes a football journalist has to hang his head in shame and say 'El Nino - you're some player old boy'. A price tag that many considered but baulked at caused Rafa Benitez not a millisecond of consternation. You could tell from the moment he arrived at Anfield that Torres was the shiny Benitez needed to complete his Panini album, as the beardy one wrapped his arm around his record buy like an uncle to favourite nephew.
Searing pace, an unnerving finish, muscular presence and a boyish charm that eschews the slapped on the derriere face of many foreigners still acclimatising to the idiosyncrasies of English football, makes Torres my flop/buy of the season.
Since the inauguration of the Premier League in 1992 English football has embarked on a metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly, from boozy benders to cafe culture, from Tony Adams falling down stairs to tinkering the ivories, from foreigners being 'soft' to being idolised. However, for all its airs and graces, it's still a league that is as much about blood and thunder as it is about step-overs and scissor kicks.
And some players just aren't ever going to cut it. Rolando Bianchi arrived in England with an £8.8million price tag and a neck warmer. In August. Enough said. It's fair to say Sven would have been better advised signing Roland from Grange Hill than Rolando from Reggina. After just five goals Bianchi was adjudged a misfit and shipped back from whence he came in January, as Lazio stocked up on pale blue roll neck jumpers.
When selecting this season's 'classic' game it's difficult to look beyond Liverpool's tumultuous tussle with Arsenal on Merseyside. A European night at Anfield that had more renditions of Gerry and the Pacemakers than karaoke night in a Melwood working men's club, saw Rafa Benitez once again prove he is the tactical general when it comes to Europe.
Arsenal had a semi-final berth in their grasp when mascot Theo Walcott emulated Michael Owen circa 1998 in setting up Emmanuel Adebayor but it was not to be as Steven Gerrard and then at the game's death, Ryan Babel, booked Liverpool a place in the final four.
My personal highlight was scoring a chip in the office five-a-side on Monday night, but I'm guessing my editor is after a nomination from the professional field. While there has been a plethora of great games both home and abroad and the respective arrivals and departures of King Kev and Jose Mourinho were sensational news stories, I'd have to plump for Darren Moore's miracle.
Way back in December, Big Dave performed the impossible in making Mark Viduka look fast. Moore had at least 10 yards on the big Aussie at St James' Park, but backed by the Toon masses, Viduka swept past the Derby man and cleanly took possession. I haven't laughed so much in years.
To mark the passing of my 27th year I embarked on a journey to the heart of every gluttonous hedonist's fantasy - Hartlepool. I had planned a spot of clubbing in NYC with P-Diddy but the little man was busy, so instead elected to spurn the Big Apple in favour of dilapidated ship yards, pound shops and an awe inspiring number of Greggs. Hartlepool is clearly the pasty capital of Europe.
The game started well enough as Craig Davies gave my side Oldham the lead, before the Monkey Hangers elicited a footballing hangover from hell in thumping us to the tune of 4-1. A half-time pie did little to elevate my mood as it was clearly conceived in the same year that I was; a turgid dry crust encompassing less meat than a Cheryl Cole thigh.
My girlfriend was away with work so I returned to the flat to eat fish and chips on my lonesome, but not before a young girl had called me a 'dirty old perv' for having the temerity to avert my gaze in her direction, in an attempt to locate the source of the banshee wail. Magic.
Ronaldo's flick against Aston Villa, Fabregas' sumptuous team effort against Slavia Prague, Elano's free-kick and any number of Torres' decisive strikes deserve praise but for me it's Aston Villa's Stilian Petrov that tops the pops.
The Bulgarian has yet to really find his feet his feet in English football, and a goal at Derby is hardly proof the tide has turned in his direction, but the technique he demonstrated to return Roy Carroll's lamentable clearance into the top corner, with his weaker foot, from 50 yards, was world class.

Santa Cruz is clearly the best buy of the season the fact he hasn't been mentioned is shocking. Torres has delivered what you expect from 28m. What about Laursen from villa this season, he has been an absolute rock and scored some crucial goals for them. He would get my vote over lescott, vidic and ferdinand. I also think Joe Hart for Man City has done a great job, to come from 3rd choice keeper to 1st at a time when huge amounts of money poored in Man City is a miracle. James has had a good season though shame he can't do it for England.

I would have loved to see Lescott's name there somewhere but I agree with the choice of Ferdinand and Vidic who has been immense to Man U season. Lescott with the goals he's scored and assists, he's massive for a central defender. Clichy no surprise he's in the team of the season, performance speaks, except a few blips (Birmingham) which happens... Watch out for next Season

I agree with some of the comments I've read in here and disagree with some. For my rising Star I would give it to Theo, if given a chance he will be a manace to the premiership defenders. Wenger must help him improve his finishing and with a decision making when he is in a position of the ball. Anderson in my opinion, he is not living it up, Man Unit, spent a lot of money and for me he will have to do much better to win the place, coz Carrick is much much better than Anderson. My Game of the Season has to be Chelsea and SPurs. 4-4 draw.

James, Sagna, Rio, Lescott, Clichy, Young, Gerrard, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Adebayor and Torres something like that.

Like other fellow Derby fans have wrote, I'm sure that Derby would win fans of the season, 11 points from 37 games so far (and most probably 11/12 from 38) we have averaged 33/30000 every week at home and have sold out nearly every away trip no matter how far it was, I went to the Blackburn game this weekend and we sung louder that the Blackburn fans all game, the Aston Villa match, 4-0 down and we got a Mexican wave going, 6-2 down at Arsenal and we still sang, whichever game you pick, Derby fans have be brilliant all year, I rest my case.

No chelsea players despite them being on the same points as man utd?? Torres buy of the season what a joke!!!! Everyone knew how good Torres was before and 20 million is hardly a bargain buy. If you sky idiots had any sense then Santa Cruz would be buy of the season! And why isnt Tuncay in the sky team, in fact Tuncay is that good and works so hard he could be the whole team by himself!!

Darren Moore deserve to be mentioned. He is guilty of Derby relegation.I hav never seen such a poor defender in my life

Best buy of the season has GOT to be Roque Santa Cruz. Admittedly Torres looks like a fantastic player, but Santa Cruz has only 3 less league goals and cost a whole £17 million less! And as for Adam Crebo (below), to claim Wes Brown is the best RB in the Prem is absolutely ridiculous. He has looked solid at best, he has little to offer coming forward and has been poor for England. If anyone has had a better season than Glen Johnson it's Sagna.

Oi! pasty Capital of Europe? are you kidding me ? we have three greggs. Im a student in leeds at the minute, and Leeds has a greggs every 13 yards! have u visited the city?

How can the team of the year not have ANY chelsea players included. They are 2nd in the league, lost less games than man utd and are in the champions league final and evryone is saying they don't deserve at least 1 player in the team. Yes i may be biased but Essien & Carvlaho have to be in it and even maybe Joe Cole as only his recent form has dipped but he was at the top of his game earlier.

Santa Cruz has to be the best buy of the season and in the team ahead of adebayor. adebayor has missed too many chances this season at crucial times and playing with world class midfielders such as febregas and hleb delivering the ball i think i could score a few goals too. I agree with matt, essien in replacement of barry. evra and wes brown in the team, only a man utd fan could suggest that. best game of the season. spurs 4 - 4 chelsea. looking back on that, chelsea 3-1 up and threw it away could just have lost them the tital as it was only 4 weeks ago at a crucial time.

Glen Johnson, Geal Clichy and Gaterh Barry?!?!?!? Sorry but this is completely wrong-a couple of good performences from an averager and a player who found form at 27 can't be enough to get a place? Surely Wes brown, Evra, A Cole have to be better. Essien is miles better than Barry, the guy's unstoppable on a run and defends as well as Terry for gods sake.

This season's FA Cup has been the best thing to happen to football in years. A clutch of non-premiership teams making the last 8 (including the mighty Bristol Rovers!!) Ok, so we were totally hammered by WBA and our season then fell apart but it made the premiership worshiping media remember that there are 92 clubs in the football league. I hope Cardiff go on to win the Cup this year and stick one in the eye of the big boys from the football league.

Where's Bacary Sagna? He's been absolutely magnificent at right back for Arsenal, looked settled in from the first kick of the ball?

I would have Ashley Young in my team of the season, and would have probably picked him for my rising star. I'm not just saying it because I'm a Villa fan, but he really is something special.

Adam Crebo (Manchester United fan) says...
Whilst I would hate to think that a United fan has used his bias to pick the regular back 4 as the best of the season, surely Wes Brown and Evra have been the best performers in their relative positions? Both have shown that they have perfected the ability to attack with intent and yet rarely be found wanting on the counter-attack. If nothing else, the Barcelona games proved as much...

Max Cooper (Arsenal fan) says...
As a Gooner i have learnt to hate Tottenham, but the game of the season has to be Chelsea 4 -4 Spurs, With a thrilling last minute equaliser from Robbie Keane, I also agree with Hleb on the wing, Young has done excellently well but if you put him up there with the big guns he doesn't shine, Alex Hleb has been consistent all season and that is why he has attracted a lot of attention, But i have every faith in Wenger for him to do everything he can to keep Hleb at the Club.

buy of the season cannot be Torres, thats the least you would expect from a player who they dished out 20 odd million hes obviously top class, but we all knew that. buy of the season has to be Roque Santa Cruz, scored almost as many goals as Torres (mind you Torres has played way more games than him), he cost rovers around 4 million, and not many thought he was a top striker almost disgraceful to have Torres as buy of the season really, if chelsea bought ronaldo for 70m now and he scored 40 goals for them, will he be the buy of the season???

I Would have to echo Martin's words. Derby have had one of the worst seasons possible. Yet week after week both home and away they have massed the ranks and averaged 33,000 at home. I was home at Everton and Newcastle games from the US. This to support a relegated side. They have the best fans in the Prem and possibly England. Forever the Rams!!
