Ferguson: Reportedly keen
Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard is attracting interest from across Europe, according to his agent.
The 26-year-old, who currently turns out for Norwegian side Aalesunds, has been billed as 'the new Peter Schmeichel' and is expected to secure a switch to one of the continent's top clubs sooner rather than later.
Among those reported to have expressed an interest are Premier League giants Manchester United, who snapped up Schmeichel for just £550,000 from Brondby in 1991.
They feel Lindegaard has the potential to follow in the footsteps of his fellow countryman and believe he would represent a sound investment for the future.
United are on the look-out for keeping talent as Edwin van der Sar is approaching the end of his career and England hopeful Ben Foster has been offloaded to Birmingham.
Lindegaard would represent a cut-price option, in comparison to other reported targets, and his representative has confirmed that the Dane could be off to England in the not too distant future.
"Anders has been playing at a very high level for a long time now and that has been noticed around Europe," former Liverpool keeper Michael Stensgaard said in the Manchester Evening News.
"He absolutely has the ability to play in the Premier League."
United are by no means guaranteed to make a bid for Lindegaard, though, as Sir Alex Ferguson has recently expressed his delight at the progress being made by Ben Amos.
The 20-year-old is currently third in the Old Trafford pecking order, behind Van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak, but is tipped for a bright future and could be the answer for the Red Devils in the long run.
"We think he is an outstanding young goalkeeper," said Ferguson.
"He has an incredible physique and is improving his speed.
"When it comes to experience, he will have to wait because Edwin van der Sar is still showing good form and Tomasz Kuszczak is very good too. But his time will come because he has got the ability."
