The new European number one certainly landed the biggest pay-day of the weekend as he stormed to victory in the Dubai World Championship to also end the year at the top of the European standings.
Westwood is still smarting from not winning some big tournaments when in with a chance, noticeably at this year's Open, but he was in no mood to give up his chances at the Earth Course in Dubai when he stepped out for his final round with a two-shot lead.
Worksop's finest carded a flawless 64 to blow the field away by six shots and not only claim his second European number one title, but also pick up $1.25 million for winning the tournament and $1.5 million bonus for winning the inaugural Race to Dubai, leaving Westwood smiling all the way to the bank.
It was a perfect day for England all-rounder Collingwood as he reached a landmark in his career by producing a Man of the Match display to help beat South Africa by seven wickets at Centurion Park.
The Durham man became England's most-capped one-day player as he turned out for the 171st time to overtake Alec Stewart in the record books - and he celebrated in style by firstly taking 2-24 with the ball.
With the bat Collingwood then made 105 not out, his fifth ODI century, to steer England to victory by seven wickets to go 1-0 up in the series and seal a super Sunday for 33-year-old Collingwood and a day he'll never forget.
The Saints maintained their relentless push for the Super Bowl by extending their unbeaten record for the season and going 10-0 for the first time in their history.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers never seemed likely to offer up any serious problems for Drew Brees and co, and so it proved as the Saints secured a comfortable 38-7 victory in Florida.
Brees connected for three touchdowns and Mike Bell ran in two scores as the Saints continue to put forward a strong case for going all the way this season.
What more can you say about a man who continues to dominate his sport time and time again? And as if there was any doubt he proved it once more in Wolverhampton as Phil Taylor lifted the Grand Slam of Darts.
This time the best from the BDO joined the PDC ranks in trying to oust the 14-time world champion, and although he did lose his final group game he never looked like being in trouble from then on.
BDO number one Tony O'Shea took seven legs off him before Raymond van Barneveld mustered just six in the semis and Scott Waites was mown down 16-2 in the final, and Taylor continues his unbelievable record of currently holding all the major titles in darts.
The England boss continues to occupy his usual place in the 'bad week' section on skysports.com after yet another defeat, although at least parts of Saturday's performance will have given him some hope.
England's forwards gave the All Blacks a decent scrap during their 19-6 reverse but a return of just one try in three autumn internationals will be deemed not good enough by England's followers.
After defeats to New Zealand and Australia, even a win over Argentina brought few smiles due to the manner of the success, and Johnson really does have big problems heading into the Six Nations next year.
While all eyes were on Westwood as he collected his trophies in Dubai, spare a thought for the young Irishman who could have added his name to history had he been able to hang on to his place in Dubai. The 20-year-old arrived in Dubai £114,000 in front but knew a Westwood win would hand the Englishman the title, and that's just how it played out as despite his best efforts McIlroy could only place third.
The youngster will no doubt lose some sleep over his closing three holes of the third round, when three consecutive bogeys handed all the initiative to Westwood - especially at the 18th when McIlroy shot straight at the flag instead of playing safe and a hooked wedge ended up in the water.
Scotland celebrated a first win over Australia in 27 years but the main man feeling responsible will be Wallabies fly-half Giteau after his kicking woes handed the win to the Scots.
The hosts showed superb defensive qualities during their 9-8 success, but Australia did have a couple of tries ruled out and Giteau made some uncharacteristic errors with his boot - including missing a relatively makeable conversion with the final kick of the game that would have won it for the Aussies.
Giteau missed a drop-goal and two penalties that he would normally hope to make, and when a late try looked to have broken Scots hearts, Giteau then missed the conversion and left Murrayfield hanging his head as the Scots celebrated.
